Another from my favourite series of retro German ship cards
Thank you Sabine The English go on about their maritime heritage, and sure, but the Germans really knew how to cruise in style. Read my story: Luxury Cruising: Blame the Germans

Berta Benz in Pforzheim

A beautiful re-creation of the historic moment when Berta Benz (wife of Karl Benz) telegraphed home to Mannheim of her safe arrival in Pforzheim, thereby completing the first long-distance automobile journey (194km) and a public relations triumph for Benz automobiles. Thank you Sabine for this thoughtful card which enlightened and delighted me.

New Disneyland postcards

Wow! Disneyland are opening some new attractions in June and have launched a series of promotional postcards to coincide. Not sure if they are 'limited edition' or will become common souvenir stall items. See the rest of the set here.

Vintage Lufthansa

Thought this might have been a modern re-interpretation, but delighted to discover it is in fact a reproduction of famous Walter Rau Lufthansa poster from mid-1950s. Thanks Sabine

Celebrations, Pyongyang, North Korea.

You don't get many of these. From my adventurous travel pal, Kris. Pyongyang. If they knew she was a journalist, she'd be thrown out. Unfortunately one stamp was torn off. Cheap North Korean glue, no doubt. (Same stuff holding the country together)

Rackcards: Hawaii Five-O

Rackcards or freecards. You either love 'em or hate 'em. I have a foot in both camps. But stuff like this is hard not to like. From www.avantcard.com.au

FJ Holden

The successor to the original 48-215 (FX) the FJ was the iconic Australian car of the 1950s, manufactured from 1953-56 with 169,969 produced. Very few remain and are highly prized.

Nepal: The Living Goddess Kumari

From my wide-eyed and well-travelled pal Ewen. We travelled together to Antarctica in December 2010. Ewen is a gifted photographer and conducts his own tours.

Bilamuk Gapal, Larrakia man, Palmerston NT 1891

Some years back, a cache of old photographic plates was discovered near Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory. The haul revealed (among other things) a wealth of brilliant portraits of Aboriginal people in their traditional attire and adornment. This card was produced by the South Australian Museum to coincide with an exhibition and is my clear favourite from the collection. Another reason to love museum issue postcards.

Tonga: HM King Siaosi Tupou V

Tonga: Fondly known as King George, His Majesty passed away in March this year. An eccentric chap with a love of things British, King George was known to get about town in a London cab. From my friend Kris.
